Luang Prabang a été récemment inscrite au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco pour la richesse et la diversité de ses nombreux temples.
La ville est entourée de montagnes et est située en bordure du Mékong. C'est un coin agréable pour rester quelques jours et profiter des nombreux marchés, surtout le grand marché d'artisanat, qui se tient tous les soirs dans la rue principale.
Nous restons une semaine à Luang Prabang pour visiter la ville et les curiosités alentour (chutes d'eau, grottes,...).
C'est la première fois que nous avons froid depuis notre départ ; il doit faire tout juste 20°C contre plus de 30°C il y a une semaine.

Lately Luang Prabang was added to the list of world heritage cities, due to its numerous and beautiful temples.
It's surrounded by mountains and located near the Mekong river. It's a nice place to stay to enjoy the markets, especially the night market where lots of handicraft stalls are installed in the main street.
We stay one week here to visit the temples and all interesting things around (waterfalls, caves,...).
Unfortunately, it's pretty cold here and it's the first time from the start of our trip we have to wear warm clothes. Temperature is about 20C, compared to previous 30C (in average).

Vers 6h du matin, les moines parcourent les rues pour recueillir de la nourriture donnée en aumône par la population.

Nong Khiaw
Après notre semaine à Luang Prabang, nous remontons vers le Nord, à Nong Khiaw. C'est un gros village au bord de la rivière Nam Ou que nous comptons remonter pour atteindre Muang Khua, la dernière ville du Laos où il est possible de prendre un bus pour rejoindre Dien Bien Phu au Vietnam.
Nous louons un bungalow et restons 2 jours à paresser au bord de la rivière. En début et en fin de journée, une brume froide enveloppe le village. La nuit est vraiment froide dans notre cabane faite de planches disjointes... Heureusement, à partir de 11h, les nuages disparaissent et nous pouvons profiter de la chaleur. Les enfants peuvent même se baigner (et pourtant l'eau est un peu froide).

After one week in Luang Prabang, we go North to Nong Khiaw. It's a big village located on the Nam Ou riverside. From there, we plan to take a boat to go to Muang Khua where we will be able to cross the border and go to Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam.
We rent a bungalow and stay a couple of days doing nothing, just rest. in the morning and late in the afternoon it becomes foggy and the temperature falls down. The night is pretty cold in our bungalow made of wood planks (not really isolated). Fortunately, from 11am onwards, it becomes much better and clouds disappear to let the sun shine. The children can swim in the Nam Ou river even if the water a bit cold.

Muang Khua
On  peut se rendre à Muang Khua en bus ou en bateau depuis Nong Khiaw. Nous préférons le bateau, même si le trajet dure 6 heures.
Un peu après le départ, notre bateau prend l'eau, mouillant nos sacs qui étaient à l'avant. Le capitaine préfère accoster pour étouper la coque en bois sans grand résultat puisque une personne à l’arrière passera son temps à écoper...
Serpentant entre les montagnes, la rivière offre de beaux paysages. Heureusement il fait beau. Les enfants s'amusent et ne voient pas le temps passer.
En fin d’après midi, nous arrivons à Muang Khua, un village poussiéreux où il n'est pas facile de trouver de quoi manger. Nous devons quitter le Laos rapidement (notre visa expire) et un bus part le lendemain matin à 6h .
A 6h, il fait encore nuit. Notre bus pour Dien Bien Phu part finalement à 6h45.

We can go to Muang Khua from Nong Khiaw either by boat or by bus. We prefer taking a boat even if the journey takes 6 hours. A few minutes after we left, we had a problem as water entered in the boat. Our bags stocked in the front are getting wet. The captain preferred to stop to fix the holes, with no good result as a man on the back had to empty the water with a pan.
The landscape is very nice, the weather is good and children play all the way and do not complain.
Late in the afternoon we arrive in Muang Khua, a dusty village where it took some time to find out a place to have dinner. We have to leave Laos quickly as our visa is expiring soon and we can take a bus the day after at 6am .
A 6am it's still dark. Our bus for Dien Bien Phu leaves at 6:45am.
