En Isan...

Chiang Khan
Nous sommes arrivés en Isan (toute la région Est de la Thaïlande) et notre première destination est Chiang Khan, un gros village situé en bordure du Mékong. Le coin est très tranquille, à l’écart des grands circuits touristiques. L'Isan est le "grenier a riz" de la Thaïlande et regorge de très belles et très nombreuses rizières.
Nous nous baladons sur des petites routes peu fréquentées et traversons des petits villages où les habitants crient "hello" et font de grands gestes aux enfants lors de notre passage. Quand nous nous arrêtons, Florian et Romain sont l'objet de toutes les attentions (bisous, câlins, tapes amicales, grands éclats de rire).

We are now in Isan (East of Thailand) and our first stop is in Chiang Khan, a village near the Mekong. It is a very peaceful place, far away from touristic areas. Isan is a rural region and is producing most of the rice of the country.
We rent motor-bikes to ride around on very quiet roads and visit small villages where people are very friendly, especially with the children, shouting "hello' everytime they see us and touching or kissing Florian and Romain whenever we stop. The smile is on every face.

Nong Khai
Le 11 octobre, nous arrivons à Nong Khai. Après la quiétude de Chiang Khan, nous trouvons que la ville est très animée. On rencontre de nombreux "farangs" qui ne sont pas seulement venus pour la beauté du paysage (ici, ils sont nombreux à "voyager" avec une jeune voire très jeune Thaïlandaise...). Pas facile à expliquer aux enfants...
Pour échapper à cette ambiance particulière, nous sortons de la ville pour visiter des endroits plus intéressants dans la campagne environnante.

On October 11th, we arrive in Nong Khai. After the quiet Chiang Khan, the city seems much more busy. We can see lots of "farangs" here who are not visiting the country for the beauty of the landscape only but are "travelling" with a Thai girl... Not easy to explain the purpose of their trip to the children...
To escape that special atmosphere and see much more interesting things, we go out of the city and visit the countryside.

Nakhon Phanom
Au premier abord cette ville au bord du Mékong semble rien n'offrir de particulier à voir. Pourtant, nous y restons 5 jours et apprécions les marchés de jour et de nuit ainsi que les différents sites alentours. Comme à notre habitude, nous louons des scooters et la campagne, par des petits chemins en terre très sympathiques, s’avère être de toute beauté. Les enfants peuvent observer les paysans dans leurs champs, couper les gerbes de riz et les battre pour en récolter le grain. 

The first impression when we arrive in the city is there is not much to see or do here. Nevertheless, we stay 5 days and appreciate the markets and the areas around. As usual, we rent motor-bikes to visit the countryside, roaming on small tracks, in magnificent landscape. The children can learn how the farmers do the harvest and beat sheafs of rice to get rice, very interesting.

Mukdahan
Un peu comme à Nakhon Phanom, la ville par elle-même ne présente pas d’intérêt particulier mais les petites routes et chemins qui traversent les villages nous ont réjouis. Beaucoup de rizières, toutes très belles, mais aussi des plantations de cannes à sucre ou d’hévéas qui apportent de la diversité dans le paysage.
Le dernier jour, nous trouvons un endroit où les enfants peuvent s'amuser sur une piste de quad (photos dans l'album, on a eu un problème pour les charger sur la page).

Like Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan does not show many interests for the travellers, nevertheless we could enjoy ourselves by taking some very beautiful roads and tracks ouside of the city. Rice paddies are still very nice but we could also see hevea plantations and sugar cane fields, bringing us some diversity in the lanscape.

Ubon Ratchathani
Dernière étape avant d'aller au Laos, Ubon Ratchathani est une grande ville. Heureusement, au centre-ville on peut un peu respirer dans le parc municipal.

Last stop before going to Laos, Ubon Ratchathani is a big and busy city. Fortunatley the park downtown is a good place to rest and play for the children.
